Chattisgarh का सबसे पहला और विशुद्ध लोकपर्व हरेली तिहार, हर साल सावन माह की अमावस्या को मनाया जाता है। ‘हरेली’ शब्द ही बताता है — हरियाली का प्रतीक, प्रकृति की गोद में खुशहाली और ग्रामीण जीवन का उल्लास।
यह पर्व खेती-किसानी की शुरुआत का सूचक है, जब किसान अपने कृषि औजारों को साफ कर उनकी विधिवत पूजा करते हैं और इस उम्मीद से खेतों में उतरते हैं कि प्रकृति उनका साथ देगी।

हरेली तिहार में सिर्फ औजार नहीं, हमारे पशुधन की भी अहम भूमिका है। गाय-बैलों को नहलाया जाता है, उनके सींग रंगे जाते हैं और उन्हें गुड़ व औषधीय लोंदी खिलाई जाती है — यह सिर्फ एक रस्म नहीं, पशु संरक्षण की एक आदर्श मिसाल है।
