SEFI Demands Action on 3rd-Party Housing in BSP Township

Despite 40 years of service, BHILAI STEEL PLANT evicts its own officers and employees but stays silent on third-party occupants.
This double standard has angered BHILAI STEEL PLANT Officers’ Association, with President Narendra Banchhor voicing concern over rising township encroachments.

The Steel Executives Federation of India (SEFI) has written a formal letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, raising serious concerns about the third-party allotment of residential quarters in the BHILAI STEEL PLANT township. SEFI has urged immediate cancellation of such allotments, stating that this has created a housing crisis for SAIL executives.

🔹 High-Grade Quarters Allotted to State Officials: SEFI
The federation highlighted that high-grade quarters in the township are being allotted to state government officers, while senior BHILAI STEEL PLANT executives continue to wait for suitable accommodations.

🔹 Retired State Officers Still Occupying Quarters:
SEFI pointed out that several retired state officers have not vacated their quarters even after superannuation, which is in clear violation of the housing rules.

🔹 Encroachment in Key Sectors:
The letter specifically names Sectors 5, 9, 10, and 32 bangalows- where state administration and police officers are allegedly occupying houses and bungalows meant for BHILAI STEEL PLANT personnel.

🔹 Short-Term Allotments Misused:
FEDERATION alleged that state officials had originally requested these quarters for short-term use, but they have not vacated them even after extended periods.

🔹BSP Employees Deprived of Proper Housing:
Due to the continued occupation of high-grade quarters, many BHILAI STEEL PLANT officers—despite being promoted—are forced to live in smaller or old houses.
The federation has called upon the Prime Minister’s Office to intervene and ensure that housing meant for BHILAI STEEL PLANT employees is restored to the rightful allottees to maintain transparency, fairness, and operational efficiency within the public sector enterprise.

🔹BSP Officers’ Association: Time for a Clear Policy
(Bhilai Steel Plant OA), President Narendra Kumar Banchhor stated:
“Due to illegal occupancy of BHILAI STEEL PLANT quarters, our officers are not getting deserving housing. The housing policy for third-party allotments must change. A strict time limit should be introduced.
housing should not be provided to everyone. Only key roles—like the Collector, SP, or IG—should be allotted quarters. All allotments must be made under institutional names, not personal names.”

🔹If the Central and State Governments Can Enforce Evictions, Why Not BHILAI STEEL PLANT?
Just as the Central and State Governments enforce eviction after retirement or transfer, BSP should adopt the same policy.
Only through policy reform can third-party misuse be curbed, and deserving BSP officers finally get proper quarters in Sector 9 and other prime areas.
Otherwise, BHILAI STEEL PLANT may eventually lose control over its own township zones, including Sector 9.
